Daniel M. O'Brien was born September 17, 1919 in Manchester, N.H. and enlisted in the Army at Manchester on March 25, 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed four years of high school, and working in the manufacture of shoes. O'Brien joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Lewis, Wash. and was assigned to the 87th Mountain Infantry Regiment.
